Kitui South MP Dr. Rachael Nyamai on Saturday distributed bursary cheques worthy Ksh 18 Million to support the education of needy children in her constituency.
The funds will benefit an estimated 2000 needy learners in 450 schools across the 6 wards making the vast constituency.
Out of the total Ksh 18 million disbursed today, Ksh12 Million will go into the support of secondary school students while Ksh6 Million will go to support university and college students.
Another half a million shillings was also set aside for the support of three special needs institutions and polytechnics in a timely move by the legislator to cushion needy parents from the school fees burden as schools re-open next week.
“We are distributing Ksh 18 million today but Ksh 9 million more is on the way to continue supporting education in Kitui south” Dr. Nyamai said.
The legislator said she was channelling most of the constituency funds to education to help raise literacy levels in the poverty stricken constituency.
The CDF had earlier released Ksh 1.2 million to a section of ordained clergy in the constituency for the support of their families.
“As we support other groups, members of the clergy should not be left behind or appear to have been abandoned by their leadership” Dr. Nyamai said.
The CDF also released another Ksh 1.2Million towards payment of the Kisayani Secondary school bus that was set for auctioning by a commercial bank following a default on loan by the institution.
