Deputy President William Ruto yesterday met with Kitui County elected leaders in his karen office and discussed various development issues.
According to details shared to thecountylens.com, the leaders also discussed talks on forging an alliance between DP Ruto and ukambani leaders ahead of 2022.
The leaders, who included both opposition and jubilee MPs announced plans to join hands with DP Ruto to campaign for the top seat in the next election.
Ruto on his hand said he recognised the effort of those leaders and was ready to work with all ukambani leaders.
He announced that he will soon commence a development tour in ukambani.
There are indications the once famous Opposition stronghold, which has been against the Jubilee administration, could be leaning towards the DP as he seeks the top seat in the 2022 polls.
During last year’s election campaigns, most of the ukambani leaders were strong critics of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Ruto’s leadership.
Ruto said, “ Ukambani will not be taken for granted this time,. This time ukambani leaders will sit and consult to know their ambitions, needs and the issues they want in the political arena.”
Led by Kitui senator Enoch Wambua, the kitui leaders included Members of Parliament Makali Mulu (Kitui central), Rachael Kaki (Kitui South), Nimrod Mbai (Kitui East), Eng. Nzengu (Mwingi North), Vethi Nyenze (Kitui West), Gedion Mulyungi (Mwingi Central) and Women Rep Irene Kasalu.
